How to Plan the Perfect At-Home Spa Day

Are you looking for a way to treat yourself without leaving the comfort of your home? Why not try a spa day? An at-home spa day is the perfect way to kick back and relax and enjoy some pampering. With a little bit of planning, you can have an awesome spa experience without ever leaving the house.

Read on to learn how you can make the most out of your do-it-yourself spa day.

Shopping

Plan to stock up on the essentials you’ll need a few days before the designated day. Check your bathroom cupboard and makeup case to see what you need, make a list and head to your favorite store. You may want to consider adding some healthy snacks and beverages to the list too, so you have something to nibble on.

Setting Up

Think ahead to what your routine will entail and anticipate your needs. Setting towels out by the hot tub and making sure your phone or tablet is charged so you can access your playlist will make the day flow more smoothly. Having scented candles or a diffuser and essential oil in the areas where you’ll be performing your beauty rituals will add to the calm, relaxing atmosphere.

Getting Ready

If your hair is long, putting it up in a bun or twist will keep it out of the way. Add a headband to keep your bangs or stray hairs back and remove your makeup. Slip into a bathing suit, a robe and slippers and head on out to the hot tub. You may want to grab a glass of water or another cool drink to keep you hydrated while in the tub. Choose your playlist and then slip into the heated water to enjoy a relaxing jet-massage. If you have spa-friendly aromatherapy products on-hand, you can enjoy your favorite scent while you’re soaking. If not, scented candles are a nice touch.

Starting Your Facial

After exiting your spa, your skin will be ready for a little TLC. Thanks to the heat, your pores will be open, making it the perfect time to gently exfoliate your face with your scrub of choice. After rinsing your face thoroughly, apply your favorite mask be it a store-bought variety or one you whipped up yourself in the kitchen. While waiting for your mask to dry, you can turn your attention to your hands and feet.

Manicure & Pedicure

You’ll have a good 15 minutes to get started on making your nails look fab. Begin by removing any varnish that remains on your nails, trim them to your desired length and shape them with a file or emery board. Next, gently push your cuticles to the base of your nail beds and then use an exfoliating scrub on your hands and feet. After rinsing, massage some moisturizer into your skin.

Finishing Your Facial

Once your hands and feet are prepped, it’s time to move back to your face. Remove the now dry mask with a warm, wet washcloth and follow up with some cool water to close your pores. Apply facial serum to your skin and then lightly spritz your face with a toner. Wait 30 seconds for your skin to dry and then apply eye cream, your favorite moisturizer and some facial sunscreen.

Finishing Touches for Nails

Now that your face is feeling refreshed, you can turn your attention back to your nails. After choosing your colors, apply two or three coats of polish to both your toenails and fingernails. Don’t forget to use a top coat to seal your nails. While you’re waiting for your nails to dry, why not read or turn on some Netflix?

Taking Care of Your Body

If you want the rest of your skin to feel as good as your face, it’s time to break out your dry brush or exfoliating gloves. Using slow circles on your skin helps to rid your body of dead skin cells. Followed up by another round of hydrotherapy in the spa, your skin will be left feeling smooth and silky as the water washes away impurities.

Cooling Down

Heading into the shower directly from your hot tub can revitalize you — if you turn the water to cool. The shock of the temperature change will close your pores and increase blood circulation throughout your body with the added bonus of a nice little energy boost. If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, be sure to check with your physician before subjecting yourself to major temperature changes. Once you’re toweled dry, slather on some body butter or lotion, depending on your preference. This will leave your skin feeling smooth and silky.
